Apple Crisp

Source: Jan Taylor

Butter or margarine
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted
6 red cooking apples (Winesap or Rome Beauty)

Set the oven at 400 degrees F. Grease the inside of the casserole with butter or margarine and set aside.

Mix the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt together in mixing bowl. Pour the melted butter or margarine over this and mix lightly with a fork. Set aside.

Peel and quarter the apples. Remove the core from each quarter. Slice each quarter into 3 or 4 pieces. Place the slices of apple in the casserole. Sprinkle the flour mixture over the apples as evenly as possible. Put the casserole in the oven and bake for 35 minutes or until the apples are tender and the topping browned. (To test apples, prick with a fork. If they feel soft, they are done) Do not refrigerate before serving.

Serve warm or at room temperature.

ENJOY!
