Frozen Chocolate Sundae

1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
5 tablespoons softened butter or margarine
1 1/2 to 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar
3 eggs, separated
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 pints softened vanilla ice cream
Chocolate shavings

Butter a 9-inch square pan and sprinkle with graham cracker crumbs. Set aside.

Combine butter, powdered sugar, egg yolks, vanilla extract, chocolate, nuts and salt; mix well.

Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into chocolate mixture. Pour into prepared pan. Cover and freeze two hours. Spoon ice cream over chocolate mixture, cover, and freeze. Garnish with chocolate shavings. Cut into squares and serve.
