Peanut Butter Fudge

2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup milk
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter or margarine
Pinch of salt
1 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Have ready a buttered 9-inch square pan.

Mix sugar, milk, butter and salt in a saucepan. Boil, stirring frequently, until it forms a soft ball in cold water. Remove from heat, and add peanut butter and vanilla extract. Beat until creamy and pour into prepared pan. Let cool before cutting.
