In a cup or small bowl add:
1/4 cup warm water
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1 package dry yeast
Let sit 10 minutes until foamy
In large bowl:
1 cup cold milk
1 egg slightly beaten
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
Yeast mixture
3 1/2 to 4 cups flour
Mix well; turn out on floured surface. Roll dough into a 12 inch square. You will now need 2 sticks cold butter or margarine. Slice half of a stick of butter down the center of the square, fold up envelope style and roll again. Slice butter down the center. folding, using the rest of the butter.
Place the dough in a covered bowl and refrigerate until well chilled or overnight before using. This is important as the dough will be flaky. The dough can then be rolled or shaped, filled as desired. Bake at 375 degrees F for 8-10 minutes till golden brown.
