Canned water chestnuts
Soy sauce
Granulated sugar
Bacon
Drain water chestnuts. Place in a small plastic bag, pour in enough soy sauce to cover chestnuts, tightly close bag, and marinate about one hour.
Drain off soy sauce. Roll or shake chestnuts in sugar.
Cut bacon into three strips lengthwise. (If bacon is very long, cut strips in half.) Wrap one strip bacon around chestnut and hold together with a wooden pick. Place on rack in baking pan. Bake at 350 to 400 degrees F until bacon is crisp, about 15 to 20 minutes.
Leave wooden picks in chestnuts when serving. Can chill and reheat.
Bacon-Wrapped Dates: Remove pits from dates, wrap with bacon and bake as above.
